Overview

It is the second highest hill around Kathmandu valley at an altitude of 2563m north of Kathmandu. The hike to Shivapuri hill (2,732 m) from the northern border of Kathmandu takes about 8 hrs. Shivapuri hiking is one of the most exciting hikes around Kathmandu. Nepal, Shivapuri Village maintains the true spirit of the Nepalese village experience in its midst; yet it provides a visitor with a glimpse of the remoteness and the grandeur apart from the hospitality and lies in the buffer zone of the Shivapuri National Park, which is one of the few National Parks situated in any capital around the globe. Shivapuri Village offers various activities to keep oneself busy during their stay be it in the form of Nature Treks and Hikes, Ethnic Village Tours, Bird Watching, Photography, or just simply relaxing in leisure.

Itinerary

Day hike drives to Wuhan pokhari hike to Shivapuri.

Early in the morning, you drive from Kathmandu to Muhan Pokhari for about 30 minutes. After checking the formalities at the Shivapuri entrance gate, you enter the Shivapuri watershed and wildlife area. You commence your hike from the southern boundary of the area where the army check-post is located. The trail goes along the rugged motor-able road through pine and cherry forest up to Nangi Gompa within one and half hours, where a nunnery monastery is located. Beyond the monastery, the trail goes steep uphill through the oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forest for another 3 hours. From here one can enjoy the beauty of the snowy Himalayas such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Lirung, and Dorji Lhakpa and you take a shortcut downhill to Budhanilkantha in about 2 and 1/2 hours and drive back to Kathmandu.
